12/02/2007 Lots of Great Things Are Happening at AFS Turf!
New this winter will be our large capacity snow blower to clear synthetic and natural athletic fields of snow, no matter what depth! This will allow your team to get on the fields late in the fall and early winter, as well as, in the early spring, when lacrosse season is under way.
12/02/2007 We're Very Excited!
We are working with the Connecticut agricultural experiment station in monitoring and discussing the effects of synthetic turf infill migrating into the water shed of adjacent fields. As of yet, there have been no conclusive results from the tests that are currently ongoing. We are also working with synthetic turf companies and discussing with them which diseases are being harbored in the synthetic turf. We will also be able to treat for bacteria’s that live in the turf.
We recently completed Connecticut’s 1st high school synthetic baseball field located in Darien, at the Darien High School. Athletic Field Services took the project from start to finish moving more than 15,000 yards of material and importing more than 12,000 tons of stone. This project was completed on time and on budget. Another example of how the AFS team continues to uphold our high quality services.
Starting this fall any product with an EPA registration number cannot be used on school grounds unless it’s an absolute necessity and a hazard to public safety. What this means is that no more herbicides, insecticides and fungicides can be used on school grounds and we are working on developing an organic and synthetic fertilizer program to keep the turf healthy and giving it an ability to resist insects, diseases and weeds without the chemicals.
